21st September 2011

In today's lesson, we were learning persuasive techniques.
We all made posters of the the techniques that was given by Mr Goooooooooooooodrich , then we went around the room to look at other's poster to learn all the different types of techniques. And they were :

Rhetorical questions - asking the audience/reader a question that is not meant to be answered and only make them think in their head.

Anecdotes - A short real incident story that links to the topic that you're talking about.

Cluster of three - three adjectives that make the sentence more powerful and effective.

Statistics - A number to back up your point.

Alliteration - The repetition of initial sounds in neighboring words, it makes the sentence sound a lot smoother and easier to read.

Personal pronounce - using words like 'you' , 'we', 'us' to get the audience involved .

Emotive language ( I think? can't remember..) - creating a atmosphere to make the audience feel the same as you.

etc...

We must use these techniques in our writings so it makes our writing more powerful, persuasive and forceful.

Perspectives and Concepts - 16/9/11

In today's lesson we looked at perspectives and concepts, in particular at how presentation and language features could be used to create these.

We decided that a perspective was the message that the writer was trying to convey to the reader; we decided that a concept was the main idea that the idea was based on.

We looked at an advert for Loreal, deciding that the message and concept of the advertisment were similar, with the perspective being that Loreal is a luxurious product, and the concept being that of glamour.  The purple satin curtains in the background of the image demonstrated this idea, with purple being the colour of luxury and exlusivity.  The diamonds shining in the slogan reinforced this concept.  Finally, the tag line of the product, 'because your worth it', created the impression that, although the product is a glamorous and luxurious one, the reader deserves to have this level of luxury in their life. 

Following this, we considered another three images, an I-Pod advert, and RAF advert and a Brantano advert, thinking about the perspective and audience of both.  Finally, we wrote a series of PEE paragraphs about this.
